and the main reason flat track is still
alive today in Southern California;
Eddie Mulder.
Del Mar Fairgrounds, June 23, 2006.
It was worth the entry fee; a sore knee
and 40 dollars worth of unleaded 87 just
to see that smile.
It is now 5:30am on June 24th, 2006.
I have been home for 2 hours after getting
out of bed yesterday at 5am to be at the
Del Mar race and to run about 58 laps
through 3 classes. Yes I got smoked and
am very tired but I would do it all again
tomorrow.
Just when you think you have met the
nicest people and heard the greatest bike
stories at the previous West Coast Vintage
Dirt Track Race; you go to the next one
and it happens all over again but more so.
Our flat track family is hitting it's bumps
and ruts like any family but a common love
keeps us in that family and in the race; to
grow and to heal. There are reasons that
there are bumpers on cars and erasers on
pencils. Life and racing are for learning
and growth. Little is learned,
when things go perfectly.
As I get older and the dangers of racing
weigh more on my body, mind and nerves;
I realized tonight ( again and more, ) that
it's the people that are a huge part of
what brings me back to the track.
They will never kill flat track. To do that;
they would have to kill the love of it in us.
You cannot kill love. It transcends time,
space and even death. To kill flat track;
they would also have to kill the history and
lineage of this purely American motor
sport. You cannot kill what is and what will
remain in our hearts, minds and history
books for ever.
Praise and Thanks be to God, that He
watches over us in our racing; in every
second of our daily lives and in our ability
to pursue our sport and other interests, in
a world where many suffer and die each
day without the bare necessities of life.
I do nothing for Him compared to what He
has done for me.
I am not a hyper-religious man and I am
not using this modest little web-site to
preach what is in my heart. I just know
when I am lucky and blessed in a world
where so very many; have so very little.
See ya' at the races.
